A transport machine for the conveyance of workpieces of any desired type can be fitted, depending on the output of the upstream production facility, with one or more mobile robots (1), each robot (1) being capable of reaching every point of the pick-up area (15) and delivery area (6). By means of the grippers (11), any desired workpieces (4) in any desired number can be laid on pallets or the like (5) and stacked. The stocking of the delivery area (6) with pallets or the like (5) of a wide variety of designs and sizes is calculated by a process control computer.
