Apparatus for the electroelution of electrically charged macromolecules

In an elution apparatus which is furnished with a continuous channel open on both sides and which can be operated in an electrophoresis apparatus and which has an axially centrally lying elution space which is closed at least on one side, usually on both sides, by trap chambers delimited by separation membranes, the separation membranes are clamped between a clamping frame impinged by a tightening screw, which is furnished with an outer thread and guided in an internal thread, and a clamping and stop surface formed at the end of the elution chamber with intermediate connection of at least one partition which can be inserted from above into a recess formed in the apparatus body. The surfaces forced together by the tightening screw are machined sufficiently flat to be sufficiently liquid-tight even without a clamped-in membrane. Variable trap volumes can be adjusted along an axial length of the recess in such a manner that a plurality of such partition inserts can also be inserted axially one after the other. In the case of the use, in addition, of a plurality of membranes having differing pore size, eluted macromolecules can be simultaneously fractionated according to size in one operation.
