The invention relates to a process for cleaning contaminated hot gas mixtures before measuring the contents of the gas components, which process can preferably be used for cleaning contaminated hot exhaust air from industrial drying plants (dryers) before measuring the exhaust air moisture. Instead of the filters conventional hitherto for gas cleaning, the process uses an impact separator, the baffle wall of which has a temperature Tp which is markedly lower than the temperature TG of the gas mixture, but, at the same time, is higher than the dew points tau 1 ... tau n of the n components of the gas mixture. The novel process reduces the contamination of the gas analysers, reduces their measurement errors and reduces the maintenance expenditure.
