A protection device for preventing overheating of electrical domestic apparatuses, having a bent outer tube heating element (2) as a heating device, which is acted on by, or has flowing around it, a heat carrier medium and which is mounted at one end on a carrier or holder (1). The outer tube heating element (2) is clamped in a retaining element (5), which is constructed as a pivoting lever, by means of its part (4) opposite the carrier or holder. The retaining element (5) which can pivot is held in a detachable effective connection to a circuit interrupter circuit breaker (10) for the outer tube heating element (2).
