Process for the preparation of N-(2,6-Dialkylphenyl)-N-formylglycine derivatives

The application describes a process for the preparation of N-(2,6-dialkylphenyl)-N-formylglycine derivatives of general formula I <IMAGE> in which R<1> and R<2> denote alkyl, R<3> denotes H, alkoxy or halogen, X denotes -C IDENTICAL N, -CON(R<4>)2 or -COOR<4> and R<4> denotes H or alkyl. In this process, a formanilide of the formula II is reacted with an acetic acid derivative of the formula III <IMAGE> in which Y denotes halogen, methylsulphonyloxy, benzenesulphonyloxy or toluenesulphonyloxy, in the presence of an anorganic base. The yields obtained are surprisingly high.
