PURPOSE:To prevent an undesirable production of condemn parts and duplicate fabrication, by measuring a remaining gap between a pallet and a workpiece to check whether the workpiece is made into close contact with the support surface of the pallet when a transfer machine, etc. fixes the workpiece to the pallet. CONSTITUTION:Two air micrometers 3 are attached to the body of a nut runner 1. Meanwhile a contactness detecting mechanism such as, for example, an air micrometer 5 is formed between the moving section of the nut runner 1 and a stopper 4. When a socket 2 carrying a nut approaches a workpiece 7, the air micrometer 5 is actuated to detect the arrival of the socket 2 at the starting point of fastening operation for the workpiece 7. In this condition the air micrometers 3 are actuated to detect a remaining gap between the workpiece 7 and the pallet 6. If this remaining gap is below a predetermined value, it is determined that the workpiece 7 makes in close contact with the pallet 6, and therefore the fastening operation of the workpiece 7 by the socket 2 is inititated. |
