PURPOSE:To reliably store sheets in trays by kinds and sizes by moving until the detected position of a sheet transport unit is matched with a designated value by designating means, and driving a belt conveyor where they are matched with each other. CONSTITUTION:On completion of erasing radiation image information remaining in a storage phosphor sheet 22, a conveyor 44 is again driven so that the sheet 22 is transferred toward a guide member 40 and clamped by conveyors 48, 50 to reach a sheet transport unit 52. As a motor is driven to rotate rollers 56a, 54a, a belt 64 is displaced in direction of an arrow A, and a belt 66 is displaced in direction of an arrow B, so that the sheet 22 is clamped between the belt 64 and a roller 68 to be transferred to the belt 66. With the sheet 22 clamped, the motor is once stopped. As a read portion 10 previously holds size information of the sheet 22 at this time, a signal related to size is converted to a drive signal for the motor and introduced, so that the whole enclosure 62 is transferred in the direction of an arrow C to sort a sheet by a control system.
