PURPOSE:To execute exactly and stably following recording of a main signal or a sub-signal by shifting the trace center position of a sound-recording/ reproducing head from the center of a trace track and executing a tracking control. CONSTITUTION:At the time of following recording, a switch SW 15 is switched to a contact 15a in a trace period of a pilot signal area, and an SW 14 is switched to a contact 14a only in a trace period of a main signal area. In the trace period of the pilot signal area of each track, reproducing signals of a reproducing exclusive head 5 and 6 are applied to a processing circuit 21, a filter 22, and a detecting circuit 23 through a transformer 18, an SW 19, and an amplifier 20. The circuit 23 applies an error signal being proportional to a reproducing level difference of pilot signals of two adjacent tracks in the reproducing signals of the head 5 and 6, to an adder 27, a rotational control of a capstan motor 8 is executed, the trace center position of the head 5 and 6 is brought to tracking, and the trace center position of a sound-recording/ reproducing head 3 and 4 is brought to a position which has been shifted to the center of the time of recording of a trace track.
