NEW MATERIAL:6-Dimethylamino-1,8-diazabicyclo[5,4,0]undecene-7 of formula I. USE:Useful as an epoxy hardener, especially a catalyst for the production of epoxy compound for electronic use or production of various urethanes. It has low hygroscopicity and is resistant to hydrolysis. PREPARATION:The lactam compound of formula II is cyanoethylated with acrylonitrile in the presence of an alkali catalyst at 50-110 deg.C, the nitrile group is reduced to primary amino group, and the obtained N-(3-aminopropyl)amide compound is subjected to the dehydrative cyclization in a solvent such as benzene in the presence of an acid catalyst (e.g. p-toluenesulfonic acid) to obtain the objective compound of formula I.
