An apparatus for comminuting cut crop comprises reciprocating crop-comminuting knives housed in the sub-frame (47) of a main frame (40). The crop is fed towards the knives by a reciprocating piston, the frame (40) moving in the direction of crop advancement when the crop pressure on the knives exceeds the resistance of the compression springs (46). The crop-comminuting knives remain in constant contact with the crop for efficient comminution. |
