774,261. Mineral -- mining apparatus. EICKHOFF, MASCHINENFABRIK UND EISENGIESSEREI, GEB. Aug. 17, 1955 [Sept. 2, 1954], No. 23647/55. Class 68 (1). A number of circumferentially extending grooves at the periphery of a drum cutter of a mineral-mining machine are each adapted to receive a laterally extending projection 5 of a bit holder 4 so that when the projections 5 are housed in the grooves the bit holders are prevented from being moved in the radial direction or from being tilted or turned while permitting the bit holder to be moved in the circumferential direction of the drum. In one embodiment inwardly directed lugs 5 on each bit holder 4 engage around T-section bars 2 secured to and projecting from the peripheral surface of the drum. In a second embodiment channels of T-shaped cross-section are formed in the peripheral portion of the drum, and in a third embodiment rectangular channels are cut in the peripheral portion of the drum and members fixed to the periphery of the drum to overhang the sides of the channel. The members are formed by fixing a band over the mouth of the channel and parting the band intermediate its edges. Portions of the bars 2 or channels are cut away to permit of the entry of the lateral projections of the bit holders into the recesses and these portions are closed after the entry of the bit holders by locking members which cause the bit holders to be pressed tightly together. |
