PURPOSE:In a sintered hard alloy which is coated with diamond by gas-phase precipitation, the diamond is deposited in a plurality of islands, but not continuously to enable marked increase in abrasion resistance. CONSTITUTION:A sintered hard alloy is coated with diamond through a gas- phase process such as CVD process. In the coating process, the coating operation time is shortened so that the film thickness is controlled less than 1 micron whereby the coating layer is composed of a plurality of diamond particle islands.
