PURPOSE:The titled suppository, obtained by incorporating sodium alidixate which is an antimicrobial agent with a surfactant, capable of increasing the absorbability of the nalidixic acid through the rectal mucous membranes, and useful for acute and chronic urinary-tract infectious disease and biliary tract infectious disease, etc. CONSTITUTION:Sodium nalidixate suppository obtained by incorporating sodium nalidixate which is a main agent with a surfactant, and having a higher bioavailability. Polyoxyethylene higher alcohol ethers, e.g. polyoxyethylene aminoethylene (15) oleyl ether, are preferred for the surfactant. Witepsol, particularly type H-15, etc. is preferred for a base of the suppository. The components are incorporated to give <=30pts.wt. expressed in terms of free acid, main agent, 5-20pts.wt. surfactant and 100 pts.wt. total with the remainder of the base. The suppository has higher absorbability of the nalidixic acid than the conventional suppositories, and the bioavailability can be remarkably enhanced.
