PURPOSE:To increase the welding accuracy by operating the sum of the arc length and wire extension from the welding current, welding voltage and wire feeding speed and by controlling the welding torch based on the pattern of this variation in the distance between the tip and the body to be welded. CONSTITUTION:A current detector 35 detects the welding current and amplifier 32 finds the feeding speed of a wire 9 via the signal transmitted from the rotation detector 34 of a rotary encoder, etc. and inputs into a control device 25. The welding voltage V is inputted to the control device 25 from voltage detector 6. The control device 25 finds the sum of the arc length and wire extension from the welding current, welding voltage and wire feeding speed and controls a welding torch 17 via convertor 26 based on the variation pattern of this information value. The welding accuracy and operability are increased due to the torch 17 being enabled to be controlled automatically from the welding conditions directly.
