PURPOSE:To obtain a lightweight Mg alloy for the core material of a steering wheel having superior shock absorbing power by blending Mg with specified amount of Al and Mn. CONSTITUTION:The composition of an Mg alloy for the core material of a steering wheel is composed of, by weight, 3.7-4.3% Al, 0.13-1% Mn and the balance Mg with inevitable impurities. The composition may further contain 0.35-1% Si as required. It is preferable that the amount of Fe among the inevitable impurities satisfies a formula Mn(wt%)/Fe(wt%)>=25.
