PURPOSE:To perform sound recording in absence, etc., without any discrimination between an analog and a digital signal by providing a switching device which selects and connects one of a telephone set, a facsimile equipment, and a sound recorder to a communication circuit and a connection controller which controls the switching operation of said switching device and the connection operation of the facsimile equipment or sound recorder. CONSTITUTION:When an incoming signal is received from the communication circuit 1, it is detected by an incoming signal detector 4 and its incoming signal is sent out to the switching device 5. The telephone set 6 is connected to the switching device 5 initially and its bell rings. The incoming signal is sent out to the connection controller 9, which is actuated to control the switching device 5, thereby connecting the incoming signal detector 4 to the sound recorder 8 and also forming a loop to the communication circuit 1. Then, the sound recorder 8 enters playback operation under the control of the connection controller 8 and then a message 'Sound recording in absence is ready.' which is recorded at the head of a sound recording tape is sent out to the calling subscriber. Then, the sound recorder 8 enters a sound recording state to beging record a message from the calling subscriber.
