PURPOSE:To remove simultaneously nitrogen and phosphorus in org. sewage by successively arranging an anaerobic vessel, a denitrification vessel and an aeration vessel, introducing return sludge from the aeration vessel into the anaerobic vessel, supplying org. sewage to the anaerobic vessel, discharging phosphorus and introducing the sewage into the aeration vessel. CONSTITUTION:Org. sewage is introduced into a denitrification vessel 24, denitrified, then introduced into an aeration vessel 25 and nitrated. An anaerobic vessel 23 is arranged on the upstream side of the denitrification vessel 24. Return sludge from the aeration vessel 25 is introduced into the anaerobic vessel 23 to which org. sewage is supplied. The return sludge is placed in the anaerobic environment and phosphorus is discharged by endogenous respiration. The phosphorus-contg. org. sewage is introduced into the aeration vessel 25 and the phosphorus is again absorbed by sludge. Consequently, nitrogen and phosphorus in org. sewage are simultaneously removed, a flocculation and precipitation vessel with has been needed heretofore can be omitted, the structure is simplified, time necessary for treating org. sewage can be shortened.
