A method of producing hybrid agricultural-chemical-pro-ducing bacteria capable of entering into endosymbiotic relationships with a plant host comprising fusion of an agriculturalchemical-producing bacterium and an infecting bacterium which infects said plant host and selecting from the products of said fusion those bacteria capable of producing an agricultural chemical, which do not create manifestations of disease in said plant host, and which are capable of entering into an endosymbiotic relationship with said plant host.
