PURPOSE:To remove stain on the surface of a steel sheet thus to improve the adhesion and the corrosion resistance by simply performing brushing a cold rolled steel sheet as pretreatment, and subjecting the surface to bright finishing. CONSTITUTION:A cold rolled steel sheet is produced by cold rolling after pickling a steel material for cold rolling. A bright finished cold rolled steel sheet having desired surface roughness is obtd. by mirror finishing the surface of the work roll for the cold rolling and the succeeding skin-pass rolling. When the surface of a desired steel sheet is to be coated only on one side, the matt surface is bright finished, and when the both surfaces of the steel sheet are to be coated, both sides are bright finished. Thereafter, the steel sheet is defatted with alkali in an electrocleaning line in order to remove rolling oil sticking to the surface of the cold rolled steel sheet, then polishing by brushing.
