In a chafing dish intended for cooking food, a so-called Bain Marie, a sheet-formed heating element (28) is placed between two aluminium sheets (26, 27, 29, 30) and pinned against the bottom (15) of the outer container. Each aluminium sheet is divided into two sections with a column (32, 33) and the edges of the aluminium sheet that face the heating element (28) are coated with fluorine plastic or a similar friction-reducing material. The aluminium sheets can thereby expand and contract without causing wear or damage to the heating element.
