PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for surplus space and provide a printer such that a mechanism can be applied to various types, by providing a lever member for moving a gear member through a ring member by a turning thereof around a platen shaft. CONSTITUTION:With the lever 9B turned in the direction of arrow A until it makes contact with a stopper 11B, a pawl 10B of a levered ring 9 is slidden along a tapered part of a notch provided in a gear-moving ring 8. Concurrently with the sliding motion, the ring 8 is shifted by a distance S to the side of a platen 1 together with the gear member 6 against the force of a spring 5, and a serration gear 7 fixed to the platen shaft 1A is disengaged from teeth 6C of the gear member 6, resulting in that the shaft 1A can be freely rotated together with a platen 1 without any restriction. |
