PURPOSE:To enable the quantity of an ink transferred to be controlled, by a method wherein a thermally foamable layer and a filler particle layer are sequentially provided on a base, and an ink comprising a coloring agent and a binder as main constituents are infiltrated into gaps present in the filler particle layer. CONSTITUTION:The thermally foamable material layer 22 is provided on the base 21 by coating, and a kneaded mixture of a particulate filler and a binder 26 is applied thereto to provide the filler particle layer 25. Finally, the ink 27 is applied to the layer 22 in the state of being heated to a temperature lower than the melting point of the binder 26, and is infiltrated into the gaps present in the layer 23. Heating elements 31N, 31N+1... of a thermal head 30 are brought into contact with the base 21 of the thermal transfer recording medium 20, while the layer 23 is pressed against a recording paper 40. The heating element 31N generates thermal energy when being supplied with electric current, and the energy is transmitted to the layer 22, which is foamed according to the quantity of thermal energy. The ink in the layer 23 is melted at the heated part, is pushed outward more at parts where more thermal energy is generated, and the ink is transferred to the paper 40. |
