PURPOSE:To obtain greater braking force with less oil temperature rise in a brake of a belt-driven rotary component such as a pulley by equipping in the pulley and the like with a cam-mechanism-operated piston to which hydraulic braking force is given. CONSTITUTION:In a cylinder 2 closed at both ends with end covers 4's, a piston 11 tightly fitted over a piston rod 13 projecting from the end cover 4 is fitted. Either the cylinder 2 or the piston rod 13 is restrained, with the remaining one being freely rotatable. Both of the peripheral surfaces of the piston 11 and the cylinder 2 corresponding to the piston are respectively equipped with V-notched, circularly arranged cams 33's and 34's so that either one of the V-notched cams 33's on the surfaces of the piston 11 engages with the V-notched can 34 of the cylinder 2. When the piston 2 shafts, oil flows through a communi cation passage 28 between oil chambers 26 and 27 thereby generating hydraulic braking force.
