PURPOSE:To reduce starting voltage and improve starting performance of electrodes which are airtightly fused to the inner ends of a cold cathode discharge lamp by using a pair of meshy Ni plates of 80-300 mesh to make each of the electrodes. CONSTITUTION:After a tubular bulb is charged with a rare gas and mercury, the inner wall is coated with a phosphor film and electrodes for a cold cathode discharge lamp are airtightly fused to the inner ends, thereby constituting a cold cathode discharge lamp used as a back light source for a device such as a liquid crystal display device. Each of the electrodes consists of a pair of meshy Ni plates 9 of 80-300 mesh which are located on a lead 3 and inside a mercury getter 2. It is made by fusing the plates 9 to the lead 3 while allowing a gap of 0.5-0.8mm, so that the plates 9 are supported by a stem 4. Owing to the above structure, electrons permeate into the innermost area of the mesh-like structure of the electrode plate and this phenomenon results in reduced starting voltage. Consequently, good starting performance of the electrodes can be achieved. |
