This apparatus comprises a pane of glass 4 capable of receiving the body 7 whose impression 9 it is desired to take, which pane is placed above a mirror 8 and in the thickness of which a light beam passes, extending parallel to the pane, the impression of the body being obtained by the contact of the bearing parts of the latter with the pane and the reflection of the light rays grazing the surface of the pane which results from this contact. According to the invention, a sheet element 6 adheres to the pane 4 at the locations corresponding to the bearing points 11 of the body and thus allows the impression obtained to be preserved, even after the body is withdrawn. This element in the form of a sheet 6 is preferably formed by a sheet of translucent flexible rubber having a face 6a which is very smooth.
