PURPOSE:To position a carriage without a backlash by energizing a rack by a resilient body and engaging this rack with a pinion. CONSTITUTION:A carriage 20 is slidably supported by a first guide shaft 25 and a second guide shaft 41 held by a first and a second rollers 33, 37. A rotatable rack 23 is pressed to a pinion 31 by a resilient force of a leaf spring 27 to be engaged. A rotating force of a motor 29 is transmitted to the carriage through the pinion 31 and the rack 23 and the carriage 20 is moved radially of a disk. Even when a Z direction attaching accuracy of the pinion 31, the Z direction attaching accuracy of the first and the second guide shifts 25, 41 with respect to a casing 26, and a work accuracy of the pinion 31 and the rack 23 cannot be fully obtained, the pinion 31 can correctly engage with the rack 23. Therefore, the rack 23 does not half engage with the pinion 31. Accordingly, a rapid wear of the rack 23 and the pinion 31 by the half-engagement can be prevented.
