PURPOSE:To change a data set memory or exchange the memory with another one without changing the responding device side, by providing a driectory area in the leading area of the data set memory. CONSTITUTION:A directory area which stores the leading addresses and transferring data numbers of plural kinds of data contained in a data set memory 23 in, for example, pairs is provided in the leading area of the data set memory 23 in a responding device 2. Then a data transferring process is started by retrieving a corresponding directory against a designated parameter informed from an external host device 1 and obtaining the leading address and data number of the data relevant to the parameter designated by the host device 1.
