PURPOSE:To obtain the vertical magnetic recording medium of high quality by a method wherein a glass forming material is added to the fundamental composition of hexagonal ferrite, they are heated up an formed into fused glass, and the heat treatment is performed on the fused glass at the prescribed temperature, thereby enabling to extract the hexagonal ferrite and to make uniform its grains. CONSTITUTION:Glass forming material is added to the fundamental component of hexagonal ferrite, and fused glass 2 is obtained by heating them up. Said fused glass 2 is dripped between the cooling roll 4 of a manufacturing device and a cooling belt 5 from a crucible 1, and the fused glass is quickly cooled from the fusion temperature to 50 deg.C or below within a second using cooling devices 7 and 8. Then, the glass is heated up to the heating temperature of the hexagonal ferrite using an exfoliating device 9, solidified glass 3 is exfoliated, and hexagonal system ferrite is extracted. Then, the grains of the hexagonal ferrite are made uniform, and the vertical magnetic recording medium of high quality is manufactured.
