PURPOSE:To obtain easily a large amount of a biologically active component of Acanthopanax senticosus, by subjecting Acanthopanax senticosus belonging to the family Araliaceae to tissue culture. CONSTITUTION:A callus derived by plant tissue of Acanthopanax senticosus is transplanted to a nutritive medium containing auxin and cytokinin, cultivated and multiplied to give a large amount of callus. It is cultivated in a solid or liquid medium to give a culture cell, from which a biologically active component is obtained. 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), indole acetic acid (IAA), naphthalene-acetic acid (NAA), etc., can be used as the auxin and kinetin, benzyladenine (BA), isopentenyladenine, etc., as cytokinin. Optionally the medium is blended with vitamins, amino acids, yeast extract, etc. EFFECT:A large amount of tissue cell of Acanthopanax senticosus can be obtained by using an inexpensive nutritive medium and a biologically active component can be produced on an industrial scale.
