PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for agricultural chemicals, pharmaceuticals, explosives, dyes, rubber amine having H atom on the amino group with a primary or secondary alcohol in the presence of a catalyst containing transition metal oxide at a specific temperature. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound can be produced by reacting an aromatic amine having at least one H atom on the amino group (e.g. aniline, o- alkylaniline, etc.) with a primary or secondary alcohol (e.g. methanol, isopropanol, etc.) in the presence of a catalyst containing transition metal oxide at 290-340 deg.C. The catalyst is produced by calcining a substance composed mainly of a transition metal compound (e.g. iron oxide, manganese oxide, etc.) at 400-850 deg.C. |
