PURPOSE:To facilitate the formation of a polymeric coupler which develops a color by contact with an acidic substance and is useful as, e.g., a recording material of a pressure-sensitive paper, by copolymerizing a vinyl group- containing coupler with at least one after monomer. CONSTITUTION:A vinyl group-containing coupler (e.g., 2-p-vinylbenzoylamino-6- diethylaminofluoran or 2-vinylbenzylidene-amino-6-diethylaminofluoran) is synthesized by reacting a coupler having at least one hydroxylic, aminic or like active hydrogen with a compound such as a vinyl group-containing acid halide, ester or halide (e.g., formylstyrene or vinylbenzoyl chloride). This coupler is copolymerized with at least on other monomer (e.g., acrylamide or styrene) to obtain the purpose polymeric coupler.
