PURPOSE:To automatically form a uniform paint film even to a recessed part in painting a plate material having a recessed part, by providing air jet nozzle in the vicinity of a nozzle for supplying a paint in a flowing-down or dripping state to control a paint film forming state by jet air. CONSTITUTION:In painting a plate material 2 having a depressed part such as a joint groove or a recessed groove, an air jet nozzle 4 is provided in the vicinity of a nozzle for supplying a paint to the depressed part 1 in a flowing- down or dripping state. The plate material 2 and the nozzle 3 are made relatively movable and, when the paint is supplied in this state by the nozzle 3, the paint is stagnated on the bottom surface C of the recessed part 1. This stagnated paint 6' is dispersed by the jet air from the air jet nozzle 4 to be uniformly adhered to inside surfaces 1D, 1D'. Further, the position providing the air jet nozzle 1 can be altered corresponding to a paint film forming area.
