What are described are a control method and a control device working accordingly for traction vehicles which can be used for agricultural purposes, to influence the working depth of a plough in response to changes in measured values dependent on the working depth and to limit the slip of the driving wheels, the exceeding of a predetermined limiting slip resulting in a lifting of the plough. To relieve the tractor driver of having to find and set the slip limit value before the start of work, which, if appropriate, may also be necessary during work, it is proposed that the limiting slip SG be formed repeatedly as the sum of a slip average value SM and a limiting range value G. As a result, not only the difference between the limit value and the average wheel slip can be kept substantially smaller than hitherto, but furthermore an automatic adaptation of the limit value to an average wheel slip changing during the working of difficult soils is also provided. <IMAGE>
