1-Alkyl-1-oxo- DELTA <3>-phospholene of the formula <IMAGE> in which R is alkyl, can be isomerized in solid form to give the DELTA <2> isomers of the formula <IMAGE> by heating in the presence of the oxides, hydroxides, carbonates and/or hydrogencarbonates of the alkali metals and/or alkaline earth metals. The resulting isomer mixtures can be separated into their components or processed in the form of mixtures, for example as catalysts for certain reactions.
