PURPOSE:To easily grasp image information which is recorded and stored on a storage type fluorescent body sheet by detecting the quantity of the afterglow of instantaneous light emitted by the storage type fluorescent body sheet. CONSTITUTION:The storage type fluorescent body sheet 1 is irradiated with radiation passed through a subject and is a sheet right after radiation image information on a subject is recorded and stored, and the afterglow 1a of instanta neous light emitted during radiation irradiation is generated from the entire surface of the sheet. A line sensor 2 which extends to length larger than the width W of the sheet is provided above the sheet 1. Respective sensors constitut ing the line sensor are operated one after another successively to detect the afterglow 1a and the image information is grasped for every picture element determined by the number of respective sensors of the line sensor from the detected afterglow. Further, the sheet 1 is conveyed at an equal speed as shown by an arrow A and the afterglow 1a generated from the entire surface is detected successively by the operation of the sensors 2 and the conveyance of the sheet 1, thereby grasping the information of every picture element.
