PURPOSE:To eliminate the need to retrieve a specific frame again even when there is an error in format and to facilitate retrieval by moving an index frame as the specific frame to a readout position immediately when the format is changed. CONSTITUTION:When the format of a microfiche F is changed with a dip switch 28, a CPU 24 calculates an index position corresponding to a format read in from the switch 28 and drives pulse motors 12 and 16 to move the index frame to the readout position as the specific frame. Then, a retrieval routine for an optional frame is executed. Consequently, the specific frame need not be retrieved again after the format is changed even if there is an error in format setting, and the retrieving operation is facilitated.
