A counter-ceiling structural element has an elongate metal panel (3) which has a U-shaped cross-section, in which the free ends of the legs are directed inwards and run parallel to the base. In the panel there is arranged a mat consisting of fireproof fibrous material, and the opening delimited by the free ends of the legs is covered by a slab of fireproof fibrous material which is fastened on the panel. At each end of the panel (3) there is provided a hook-shaped nose (8) which, for the vertical support of the structural element, can be hooked on a bearing means fastened on the wall. The counter-ceiling structural elements of the counter-ceiling formed therefrom are self-supporting over the width of the room or corridor. The panel joints are covered by strips (13) which are fastened on the metal panel of only every second structural element (1). The counter-ceiling is distinguished by a high downwards fireproofing capacity and, at any point of the ceiling, the structural elements can be easily dismantled, virtually no free space above the counter-ceiling being necessary for dismantling purposes. <IMAGE>
