A working stand (1) for electric machines for handymen has a machine holder (4) which can be moved up and down on a vertical guide column (3), the guide column (3) being provided with a toothing (7), in which a toothed wheel (8), which is mounted in the machine holder (4) and can be driven via a hand crank (9), engages, and a graduated ring (17) which is arranged on the toothed-wheel shaft (14) and connected thereto via a rotating coupling (22, 23) and which is assigned a fixed reference marking (31) on the machine holder (4). In order to equip the working stand (1) with, in addition to an easily visible optical control device for the advance, a conveniently adjustable advance limitation also, the graduated ring (17) has a coupling member (22) which can be transferred from a rotationally rigid engagement position into a permanent unlocked position, and the graduated ring (17) is provided with a rotating stop (33) which is assigned a counter-stop (34) on the machine holder.
