PURPOSE:To stably treat phosphate ion-containing water, by contacting said phosphate ion-containing water with an aluminum-containing particulate material in the presence of an aluminum salt. CONSTITUTION:Phosphate ion-containing water is passed through a packed bed comprising an aluminum-containing particulate material at pH of 3-8.5 in the presence of an aluminum salt such as aluminum chloride or aluminum sulfate at a flow speed of 20-80m/hr for 5-60min. This development washing is repeatedly performed. The reactivation of the aluminum-containing particulate material of the packed bed lowered in its activity is performed by contacting 1-500wt% of an alkali agent with the particulate material packed bed at a liquid passing speed of 0.5-20m/hr for 1-10hr. By this method, phosphate ion-containing water can be stably treated.
