PURPOSE:To prevent the reduction of the strength of a glass fiber for an optical transmission by forming a photoconductive polymer coating film on the glass fiber for the optical transmission. CONSTITUTION:An inlet 6 for feeding a starting material constituting the polymer is provided at the upper part of a polymerizing tank 5 and the exhaust port 7 for discharging gas is provided at the under part of the tank 5. The lower end of the base material 1 composed of the glass fiber for the optical transmission is melt-spun by a heating furnace 2 to form the glass fiber 10 for the optical transmission and then is wound while passing through a plasma generating device 3 and the polymerizing tank 5. While, the plasma polymerization is performed by impressing for example, the high frequency wave of 100W. 13.65MHz to a high frequency coil 4, thereby generating the plasma and at same time by feeding a monomer to the polymerizing tank 5 from the inlet 6. Thus, the photoconductive resin coating film obtd. by the plasma polymerization is formed on the glass fiber 10 for the optical transmission.
