<p>A source of light is provided at a position remote from a display surface, and the light from the source of light is converted into a light which has a substantially homogeneous light flux density through a light controller such as mirror of a special shape before the light reaches the display surface. A picture generator such as transmission-type liquid crystal picture generator is inserted in the path of light which has a substantially homogeneous light flux density, and the light having homogeneous light flux density which has passed through the image generator forms an image free of irregular illumination on the display surface. To form a color picture, the optical systems are provided in a number equal to the three primary colors consisting of red, green and blue. Lights from the sources of lights of three primary colors are sent maintaining a time difference to picture generators pertaining to the three primary colors. In synchronism therewith, image signals of three primary colors are successively sent to the three picture generators, thereby to form a color picture relying up a color sequential system. Further, the optical systems are used for each of the three primary colors, and image signals of three primary colors are input in synchronism with each other to the picture generators, in order to form a color picture relying upon the additive color mixture system. Excellent color convergence can be obtained by these systems for forming color pictures.</p> |
