Benzyl alcohol-containing flux attacks plastics. With regard to printed conductors, it may lead to corrosion after oxidation to benzoic acid (by normal ageing in air) if it is not washed off completely. Conventional ethanol-containing fluxes creep underneath the cemented joint of chips and cause these to split away at soldering temperatures. In the flux on which the invention is based, rosin is dissolved in an aliphatic alcohol having a boiling point from 130 to 180 DEG C.
