A description is given of a method and an apparatus for the production of slot-bridge filter tubes. The method is distinguished by the fact that the slot bridges are pressed into the finished tube, thereby eliminating the risk of deformation of the slot bridges during further operations in the production of the tube. The apparatus for carrying out this method has a supporting body which is provided with a multiplicity of radially movable cutting tools and is arranged inside the tube. The cutting tools are moved radially outwards and, in the process, shear off corresponding portions of the tube wall to form the slot bridges. As reaction elements use is made of dies which are moved against the surface of the tube from outside.
