In addition to a pump which supplies a priority consumer and secondary consumers, an auxiliary pump is provided which draws in working medium from the tank via a suction line arranged in an elevated position. The auxiliary pump builds up a control pressure which keeps a valve arranged in the line to the secondary consumer in the open position. If the level of the working medium in the tank drops below a safety value, the auxiliary pump draws air, the pressure in the control-pressure line collapses and the valve shifts into the stop position. Thus the flow of pressure medium from the pump to the secondary consumers is shut off and the supply flow of pressure medium to the priority consumer is maintained like power-assisted steering. Electrical devices are avoided in this safety arrangement.
