In a pressing machine, mangle or the like, with a control device which, via an operating-mode selector with different switching positions, for example a foot switch, controls the pressing machine into a particular desired operating mode, such as "pressing", "steaming" or "bowl lift-off", a selector switch by means of which specific groups of operating modes can be preselected is provided. This affords, for example, the advantageous possibility of making the pressing machine work either with the typical operating modes of an industrial machine or with those of a pressing machine for domestic use. This also allows the pressing machine to produce the best possible performance in practice.
