PURPOSE:To weld a metallic pipe to the satisfactory shape in which the butt weld zone thereof does not project to the outside by forming the weld zone to a plane butt state at the specific length in the transverse direction thereof in pipe making consisting in welding the butt part of a metallic plate bent to a circular shape by the irradiation of a laser beam. CONSTITUTION:The width part P corresponding to 2-15% of the inside diameter D of the metallic pipe in the transverse direction of the butt part 6 of the metallic plate 1 bent to the circular shape is grasped by a back bar 3 of a clamping jig 2 and an upper clamping plate 5 and is thus made into the plane butt state. The butt part 6 is welded with the laser beam in this state, by which the metallic pipe is made into the good circular pipe without projection of the butt weld zone 6 to the outside. |
