The invention relates to a process for the rapid removal of hair from hides using proteolytic enzymes, in which proteolytic enzymes which act to remove hair are fed, in aqueous medium with the application of pressure, in from the flesh side of the hides and left to act until the hair has loosened, after which the hair is removed in a manner known per se.
