A hollow window-pane spacer (10) with internal partitions (30) and a corner piece (110) for connecting spacer members (10A), (10B) to form a spacer frame used in the construction of thermally insulated windows. The corner piece (110) includes legs (122), (120) forming a right angle. Each leg has a cutting edge (130). When the ends of each leg are inserted into a hollow spacer (10A) or (10B), the edge (130) cuts around the adjacent partition (30) and enters the spacer (10A) or (10B). Sealant can be injected after assembly to seal off any gaps around the installed corner piece. A method is also disclosed for forming the spacer from sheet (31). The method comprises the steps of folding edge portions of the sheet to form an open channel. Then desiccant and partitions are loaded into the open channel after which a longitudinal edge portion of at least one flap (36), (38) is folded at an angle to that flap to close the channel and thereby form a substantially closed desiccant-containing compartment. |
