PURPOSE:To accurately read an intended image area without any omission by installing plural number of image reading position specifying means composed of indicating part materials which indicate the position of image and detectors which detect its moving position at lateral and longitudinal sides of the projected image to be displayed. CONSTITUTION:When the image reading is executed, an operator specifies the desired output area by moving cursors 18, 19 and 23, 24 to the image projected on screen 17. Next, if the start of image reading is indicated from control panel (such as keyboard), an image sensor 6 fixed on a carriage 9 begins to move. And if, along this motion, a light shielding plate 51 intersects a photo interrupter 50, read start timing signal SR is sent from the photo interrupter 50 to controller 30 and the controller, after delaying for delay time T1 which is recorded in memory 31 before the start of read, starts reading using an image sensor 6.
