PURPOSE:To simplify the process and to attain low cost by providing a stage working a crystal in a pillar form while placing the Y axis of the crystal as the lengthwise direction and a stage cutting the crystal body formed in the pillar shape at a required cut angle. CONSTITUTION:The crystal body 10 is worked as a cylinder from an artifitial crystal while taking the Y axis as the lengthwise direction. The crystal body 10 is cut off into lots of pieces at the same time by using a band saw or the like at a prescribed cut angle, that is, the crystal body in tilted counterclockwise by an angle theta of 35 deg. 15' from the Z axis in the YZ plane in order to obtain an excellent thickness shear vibration in the frequency temperature characteristic. A required frequency is obtained by polishing and the shape of a crystal vibrating plate obtained by this cutting is elliptic. The major axis of the ellipse comes to the Z' direction in which the elliptic crystal vibrating plate 22 is supported normally, and when the crystal is supported in the major axis direction, the crystal is supported at a part parted from the exciting electrode and the deterioration in the characteristic of the crystal vibrating plate 22 is less.
